The Kaizen Center connects basic school children from Bs.1 to Bs.8 living around Kotokuraba in Cape Coast to teachers every day after school. The participants benefit from extra tuition in key topics of Integrated Science, Mathematics and English for improved understanding and are also assisted to do their homework. The Center also offers the opportunity for the beneficiaries to read and borrow books to improve their vocabulary. Other activities include STEM Club, reading Club & hygiene club.
Several Deaf children show through their written works that they have gaps in their grammar, tenses and word endings. They construct sentences in the structure just as they sign; with little understanding of how words fit together to make sentences correctly. Deaf children, like hearing children, need to learn how to read and understand stories, passages and sentences from all subjects in school. The inspirED to read program provides supplementary learning opportunities for Deaf children to participate in pleasurable reading sessions to improve their vocabulary, comprehension and develop visual skills.
