Reading Club for Deaf learners

One of the most exciting milestones of the literacy project is the establishment of the first Deaf Literacy Reading Club at the Cape Cast school for the Deaf and Blind; a space where deaf learners come together to read, learn, and grow.

When the club was launched, students eagerly signed up to become members. For many of them, it was the first time they had been part of a group dedicated solely to reading and literacy. The club was created to make reading enjoyable, interactive, and accessible while helping students strengthen their reading, vocabulary, spelling, and word recognition skills.

Each week, members gather for reading sessions where stories come to life through sign language, discussion, and shared learning experiences. Students take turns reading, exploring new words, and engaging with books in ways that encourage curiosity and confidence. The sessions provide a supportive environment where every child is encouraged to participate and develop a love for reading.

As the club continues to grow, we look forward to seeing its members develop not only stronger literacy skills but also a lasting passion for books and learning.
